Eight Goals Shared in Fentor

Tullamore Rovers 4, Round Tower Rovers 4.

A thrilling game in Division 4 was held in Fentor on Sunday with Timahoe side Round Tower Rovers and local side Tullamore Rovers sharing eight goals. Round Towers were up two nil within 15 minutes after mistakes by Rovers let the Timahoe forwards in on goal twice to beat Tullamore keeper David Menton. The fast pitch was always going to suit forwards and that proved to be the case as within 10 minutes Tullamore pulled a goal back when Brendan Kenny picked his spot from just inside the box. Rovers finished out the half well with Paul McDonald and Brian Cosgrove beginning to get a hold in midfield. The second half continued like the first with some good attacking play from both sides but the home side felt they could take the initiative. The Rovers management team of Lar Byrne and Clive Evans made a few positional changes to try and find the equalising goal. Ian Harvey pulled back to right full and Billy Harvey pushed into right midfield where he did well in the in the second half. Deano Tyrell in the heart of the Rovers defence drove forward on a few occasion trying to encourage his team mates and he was covered well by his other centre half Jimmy O’Brien. Mark Lennon filled in a right back to try cope with the pace of the Timahoe forwards. Brian Cosgrove went close with a long rage effort after 60 minutes but against the run of play Round Towers went three one up after Rovers again failed to clear their lines at the back, the low drive to the right corner was just out of Dave Mentons reach. To their credit Rovers didn’t let the heads drop and they staged a great fight back with a deserved second goal after a Brendan Kenny’s shot was saved the resulting rebound was fired home by Paul McDonald. Rovers pushed forward sensing something with Derek Dolan and Billy Harvey on the wings beings supported by the Ian Harvey and Mark Lennon. The equaliser came soon after when Paul McDonald grabbed his second with a header at the back post. Rovers kept the pressure on and pushed forward but their eagerness to grab the winner cost them at the back after committing to many forward from the middle they were caught on the counter attack and punished as Round Towers took the lead with five minutes remaining. Again the Tullamore men showed great character to keep pushing to the end and in the last attach of the game Timahoe conceded a penalty after hand ball in the box. Mick Kilmartin stepped and the despite the pressure he made no mistake in finding the equaliser with the very last kick of the game. Kimartins late goal ensured that Rovers continue on their unbeaten run and remain second in the table.
