CCFL Division 4A

Tullamore Rovers 1, Abbeyleix Athletic B 2.

Tullamore Rovers went down to fellow promotion contenders Abbeyleix in an entertaining game in Killeigh on Sunday. Rovers were excellent in the first half and looked to be on their way to a victory when Jarek Gazdecki latched onto a breaking ball in the box to fire home from ten yards midway through the first half. Rover’s failure to add to the lead was their downfall and a more spirited Abbeyleix team emerged for the second half and scored within two minutes of the restart. The goal knocked Rovers confidence and ten minutes later the home side went to sleep again to let in Abbeyleix for a second goal. Both Abbeyleix goals came within and fifteen minute spell and that was the only period of dominance the away side had, the difference between the sides was that Abbeyleix took advantage of their dominance while despite Rovers taking control of the game again midway through second half they failed to find any clear cut chances. The result puts a dent in the Tullamore sides promotion hopes but they are by no means out of the hunt and a victory against Clonalsee C at home next Sunday will keep them fighting.
Tullamore Rovers: Jimmy Keenehan, Deano Tyrell, Ian Harvey, Billy Harvey, John Healy, Phil Evans, Derek Dolan, Paul McDonald, Jarek Gazdecki, Pat Tyrell, Mick Kilmartin, Brendan Kenny, Marcin Kaczmarczyk and Jimmy O’Brien.

TRASHED - Out of the John Farrell Cup

Melville United 6, Tullamore Rovers 0.

Well, what can ya say? It's hard to say anything good about this mauling, fair enough we are Division 4 and they are division 1, and we played the second half with only ten men. Yep, ten men against a Division 1 side as only the bear 11 actually bothered their holes to turn up. Add the lack of numbers at training to this and it wasn't exactly good preparation to face such a good side so let’s hope its serves as a wake up call. Nuff said about this one, consigned to the history books.
