Round Tower Rovers 0, Tullamore Rovers 0

Tullamore Rovers came away with a point from this tough encounter with Timahoe side Round Tower Rovers but they will count themselves unlucky not to have picked up all three. The Tullamore based side employed new formation in the middle of the park and dominated for periods of the game with some neat football. The first half was a dogged affair with the home side content to sit back and absorb the pressure. Round Towers Rovers always looked dangerous on the break as the rovers players went in search of a goal but the Tullamore Rovers back line held tight throughout. John Cusack played well in at right back for and Jimmy O’Brien had a good game at centre back winning all his aerial battles with a very physical forward line. Tullamore Rovers had plenty of joy down the left and side thanks to the constant running of Mark Kelly who put in another fine performance. The second half seen Tullamore Rovers begin to put more pressure on the home side and a number of half chances came their way. JP’ Leary, Brendan Kenny, and Andy Dooner came close with efforts but the closest Rovers came to a goal was through Ronan Kelly who had a shot deflected off the post for a corner. The resulting corner caused a scramble in the Round Towers box put the away side couldn’t take advantage. Phil Evans and Derek Dolan pushed forward for Rovers throughout the second period as the Round Towers went on the back foot but they still looked dangerous on the break. The Rovers management team of Alan James and Mick Kilmartin brought on Billy Harvey, James Carty and Deano Tyrell in the second half to freshen things up as the game developed into a tough battle that was taking its toll on the players. The game eventually finished goalless, a good clean sheet for Rovers keeper Jimmy Keenehan and his defence. This was a tough and entertaining encounter that Rovers will take heart from as they continue their battle for points. The man of the match for Tullamore Rovers was Emmet O’Malley who had a great game at left back putting in some great tackles and offering plenty to the midfield going forward.

Tullamore Rovers: Jimmy Keenehan, John Cusack, Jimmy O’Brien, Emmet O’Malley, Andy Dooner, Ronan Kelly, Phil Evans, Derek Dolan, Mark Kelly, JP O’Leary, Brendan Kenny; Deano Tyrell, Billy Harvey, James Carty.
